Lifetime is adapting the Stephen King novella “Big Driver” into a telepic to star Maria Bello.

Project, which is targeting a fall premiere, marks the first time the femme-focused cabler has tackled material from the famed horror master. “Big Driver” revolves around a successful mystery novelist, played by Bello, who is devastated after a brutal attack and bent on revenge. Olympia Dukakis, Joan Jett and Will Harris co-star.

Richard Christian Matheson penned the teleplay, which will be directed by Mikael Salomon. Production is to begin this summer in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bill Haber and Jeffrey Hayes are exec producing for Haber’s Ostar Prods. banner.

“Big Driver” was published in 2010 as part of King’s story collection “Full Dark, No Stars.”

Bello recently logged TV series roles on NBC’s “Prime Suspect” and Fox’s “Touch.” She’ll be on the big screen opposite Kevin Costner in the Disney sports pic “McFarland,” set for release in November.
