Lauren Graham has lined up her first post-“Parenthood” gig, with single-camera comedy project “Kate on Later” landing a script development deal at NBC.
The project touches on the network latenight talk show changeover and its failure to produce a female host.
Ellen DeGeneres is set to executive produce the series out of her A Very Good Production banner, based at Warner Bros. TV. Graham will co-write and co-exec produce alongside Liz Tuccillo (“He’s Just Not That Into You”), and she’s attached to star if the project receives a pilot order. Very Good’s Jeff Kleeman will also exec produce.
The comedy revolves around a woman played by Graham who winds up with an opportunity to host a latenight talk show. The latenight arena is much in the headlines these days with the “Tonight Show” transition that took place at NBC earlier this year and the upcoming handoff of CBS’ “The Late Show” from David Letterman to Stephen Colbert.
Deadline first reported the news.
