Kate Juergens is exiting her post as head of programming for ABC Family.
Juergens has been with the cabler since 2004, most recently serving as exec VP of original programming and chief creative officer.
Juergens’ departure comes about six months after Tom Ascheim was tapped president of the Disney cabler. In memos to staff issued Tuesday, Juergens and Ascheim described the move as her decision to “explore something new.”
Juergens was a key player in the leading the charge of original series development at ABC Family, starting with “The Secret LIfe of the American Teenager” and the channel’s signature series, “Pretty Little Liars.” She just finished overseeing four pilots for cabler.
Ascheim also disclosed on Tuesday that the cabler will combine its business strategy and scheduling and acquisitions departments, resulting in the departure of exec Lynn Stepanian.
