John de Mol’s Talpa Media Names Jay Bienstock CEO

Reality TV vet Jay Bienstock has been named CEO of John de Mol’s Talpa Media USA.

Bienstock, a former exec producer of “Survivor” and “The Apprentice,” comes to the banner from A. Smith and Co., where he was managing director. At Talpa he’ll oversee all development and programming, with an emphasis on generating new revenue streams from TV programming.

Talpa is home of NBC’s “The Voice,” based on the format de Mol created and has launched in more than 50 countries. In the U.S., Talpa also has the ambitious Fox unscripted series “Utopia” bowing in the fall.

“We have been looking for a talented creative executive but also one with the business acumen of Jay to join Talpa and lead our U.S. division,” de Mol said.

Before joining A.Smith & Co., Bienstock ran the Bienstock Young Media banner which yielded such series as “Dogs in the City” for CBS and “Bachelor Pad” for ABC.

“To be part of this incredibly creative and inspired company that garners so much admiration and respect worldwide, and to have the opportunity to help grow Talpa Media here in the U.S., is the dream job of a lifetime,” said Bienstock.
