HBO Cancels Comedies ‘Family Tree’ and ‘Hello Ladies’

'Getting On' expected to secure second season renewal

HBO has given the ax to first-year comedies “Family Tree” and “Hello Ladies.”

“Getting On,” another comedy that bowed in late November, is expected to return for a sophomore season.

Family Tree,” starring Chris O’Dowd, hailed from writer-director Christopher Guest and was a co-production with the BBC and NBCUniversal Intl. TV. The show’s eight episodes aired concurrently in the U.S. and the U.K. starting last May.

Hello Ladies” (pictured) was created by and starred Stephen Merchant. It had an eight- episode run that ended in November. HBO said the show will conclude with a “wrap-up” special, though it’s unclear when it will air.

“Getting On,” set in a rundown hospital, has drawn solid reviews. Series is based on a BBC format and shepherded for HBO by “Big Love” alums Mark Olsen and Will Sheffer.
