LONDON — Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) will join the cast of the BBC’s period gangster drama “Peaky Blinders,” which is produced by Caryn Mandabach (“Nurse Jackie”) and Tiger Aspect Prod.
Hardy will feature as a charismatic leader who presents a unique opportunity to gangster Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy.
The move reunites Hardy with his “Locke” writer and director Steven Knight, who created “Peaky Blinders” and is writing all six episodes of the second season.
Season two starts shooting later this month and will air on BBC Two in autumn 2014.
The Weinstein Company acquired U.S. television and SVOD distribution rights to the series in November.
