Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado, now on the bigscreen as Jesus Christ in Fox’s “Son of God,” has joined the cast of the CW pilot “The Messengers.”

Morgado will play a character known as “the Man,” described as “a mysterious figure who wakes up naked and burned in the desert and sets out on a mission to provide some answers about the strange events.”

The project revolves around a group of strangers who die after a strange object crashes to the Earth but are then they’re revived and discover they are responsible for preventing an apocalypse. With Morgado having starred in History’s 2013 mini “The Bible” (from which “Son of God” is derived), at least some of this pilot’s themes will be familiar territory for the actor.

“Messengers” was penned by Eoghan O’Donnell. Feature producer Basil Iwanyk and his Thunder Road banner are shepherding for CBS TV Studios.

Morgado is a telenovela star in his native country, but “The Bible” put him on the map in the U.S. He recently appeared in ABC’s “Revenge” and toplined the indie feature “Red Butterfly.”

He’s repped by Park Noack Agency and Spellbound Entertainment.
