Barkin will play Dani Kirschenbloom, a headhunter who works closely with Thom Payne (Steve Coogan). Dani harbors no illusions about the advertising industry, or life, and is described as “the sardonic prophet-philosopher of the project.”
Barkin’s last regular television role was on NBC’s “The New Normal,” and she has also appeared on “Modern Family.”
“Happyish” is billed as a scathing examination of our pursuit of happiness, a pursuit that might be the very thing causing our unhappiness in the first place. Filming on the half-hour pilot is set to begin next month in New York.
The series is created, written and executive produced by author Shalom Auslander. Ken Kwapis will executive produce and direct the pilot. Kwapis’ producing partner Alexandra Beattie will co-executive producer under their In Cahoots banner.
“Happyish” also stars Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford.
