World News Tonight” anchor David Muir is extending his reach to Facebook, where he will host a daily one-minute video update each weekday starting today, December 1, ABC News announced.

Titled “Facecast: The One Thing,” the update will offer a round-up of top stories and trending topics, and will be shot behind the scenes at ABC News headquarters in New York City. ABC News claimed  “Facecast”  was is the first daily newscast for social media hosted by an evening news anchor.

Facecast will be available on the “World News Tonight” Facebook page. ABC News said the report would  include “a mix of the essential stories on everything from breaking news and the economy to sports and politics, featuring video, photographs and infographics.”

ABC News makes its move as other traditional broadcasters have taken steps to burnish their “traditional” news efforts in digital venues. CBS last month unveiled CBSN, a live streaming-video newscast that offers CBS News reporting between 9 a.m. and midnight eastern each day.
