CW’s ‘Arrow’ Casts Matt Nable as Ra’s al Ghul

Iconic DC villain Ra’s al Ghul will appear in the upcoming third season of The CW’s “Arrow,” played by Australian actor Matthew Nable, the network announced Thursday.

Stephen Amell, who stars as Oliver Queen/The Arrow in the show, tweeted about the casting on Thursday:

Nable is a former professional rugby player who has transitioned into writing and acting, including a starring role in “Riddick.” His “Arrow” character, played by Liam Neeson in “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” is the leader of the League of Assassins in the show, and father of Nyssa al Ghul (played by Katrina Law). Proud and unforgiving, Ra’s is a ruthless strategist, a master of martial arts, and a shaper of history. He carries the wisdom of the ages, and protects some of its greatest secrets.

The character will be introduced in episode 304, entitled “The Magician.” No episode count has been revealed at this time, but the role is recurring, and Ra’s will likely play a similar role to season one villain Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and season two’s Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett).

Season three of “Arrow” will premiere on The CW on Oct. 8.
