CBS has given a pilot production commitment to “Austen’s Razor,” a drama from Legendary Television and CBS Television Studios that’s inspired by the career of bioethics expert Arthur L. Caplan.

Screenwriter-novelist David Klass (“Kiss the Girls”) and his pediatrician-author sister Perri Klass are writing the pilot with Caplan. The story follows a brilliant bioethicist who is called in at crisis moments to solve the most complicated, dynamic and confounding medical issues imaginable. Exec producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Dan McDermott and the Klass siblings. Caplan will serve as consulting producer.

Projects derived from the lives of extraordinary individuals are not unusual. This fall, the Eye will air “Scorpion,” which creator Nick Santora adapted from the life of IT guru Walter O’Brien.

CAA handles representation for di Bonaventura and McDermott. The Klasses are represented by Innovative Artists, Circle of Confusion and Jackaway, Tyerman, Wertheimer, Austen, Mandelbaum, Morris and Klein.
