ABC Upfront Scorecard

ABC has started making its series orders for the coming season, giving the nod to five dramas: “How to Get Away with Murder,” “American Crime,” “The Whispers,” “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and “Forever.”

Also picked up are four comedies: “Blackish,” “Galavant,” “Manhattan Love Story” and “Selfie.”

Renewals that are beyond the obvious choices include a nod to “Revenge” for a fourth season, “The Goldbergs” and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” for sophomore sessions.

“Murder” features Viola Davis as a law professor who gets wrapped up in a murder mystery with four students. Peter Nowalk penned the ABC Studios pilot and exec produces with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.

“American Crime” stars Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton in a  drama about racial tensions that explode after a couple is attacked in their home. John Ridley wrote the pilot for ABC Studios.

“The Whispers” is an alien-invasion vehicle from Amblin TV and writer Soo Hugh.

“Marvel’s Agent Carter” (pictured) is derived from the Captain America milieuand stars Hayley Atwell as covert operative Peggy Carter in 1946.

“Forever,” from Warner Bros. TV, revolves around an NYC medical examiner who happens to be immortal. Mark Miller wrote the pilot toplined by Ioan Gruffudd.

“Blackish,” from ABC Studios, stars Anthony Anderson as an upper middle-class family man trying to give his children a sense of their African-American cultural identify against the obstacles presented by other family members. Kenya Barris wrote the pilot and is exec producing with Anderson and showrunner Larry Wilmore.

“Galavant,” from ABC Studios and “Neighbors” creator Dan Fogelman, is a big swing at a musical comedy about a handsome prince out for revenge after losing his true love.

“Manhattan Love Story” is a rom-com about a couple that has just begun dating, from scribe Jeff Lowell.

“Selfie,” from Warner Bros. TV, revolves around a self-obsessed young woman, played by Karen Gillan, trying to change her ways. Series creator is Emily Kapnek, the scribe behind ABC’s bubble comedy “Suburgatory.”

Alphabet has also given renewals to “Once Upon a Time,” for a fourth season, and “Resurrection,” the late midseason entry that impressed during the past six weeks. “Castle” is also renewed for season seven.

And from the no-duh department, “Grey’s Anatomy” is back for an eleventh season while “Scandal’ returns for year four. “Modern Family” is renewed for its sixth season.

There’s no official word yet from ABC on the fate of other bubble shows including drama”Nashville” or comedies “Mixology,” “Suburgatory” and “Trophy Wife,” but the high volume of new series orders likely narrows their chances of returning.

To many white shows on TV today. America is diverse. We need more shows with diverse people. These shows are cancelled because they are not unique, interesting or accurate of american society today.

    • Tim Liao says:

Last Man Standing is my favorite comedy; very underrated. Who was the ignorant one who just commented about too many White shows. Did you not just read the premise for “Off the Boat”?

  2. gr8flnancy says:

    Please bring back Mixology!!!!

  3. James Haskins says:

Did anyone else notice the spell check error in the third paragraph from the bottom? “Alphabet has also given renewals to “Once Upon a Time,” for a fourth season”… “Alphabet” instead of “ABC”. :-)

    • schuylkill says:

Uh, “Alphabet” IS the slang name for the “ABC” network… as in “abcdefg…” Or is that totally misdirected sarcasm with the insertion of a smiley face?

  4. Please renew Nashville. The songs alone worth it!

  5. FSN Global 's Rick Fox says:

Reblogged this on Global News Now.

Scandal, Nashville and Castle are my favorite shows, along with The Good Wife on CBS. Please keep Nashville going. Love the music. And the characters.

  15. Kimberly King says:

If Nashville isn’t renewed then ABC is clearly out of touch with their watchers…that show is amazing. Look forward to it every week.

  16. Jack says:

Agents of Shield renewed? But that show sucks!

    • um yeah, no it doesn’t. You clearly gave up before it got rolling. it was never meant to be cameo galore with all the movie actors, but they do tie it in nicely to the movies, and making it ONE with their universe, it’s supposed to be it’s own entity.

  17. Susan Kinsey says:

I don’t watch the other 2 shows but please bring back Nashville. I don’t usually get into country music but I do on this show. The cast is outstanding!!

I really don’t get how they call Nashville a bubble show – it is an excellent show – it has drama and excellent musical performances – it’s rare now-a-days to have such quality musical performances (and original songwriting) on TV. PLEASE keep this show on the air.
