PARIS– BBC Worldwide Production France has been tapped by paybox Canal Plus to produce a documentary film about French electro band Daft Punk.

The one-hour docu, announced at non-fiction confab Sunny Side, marks BBC Worldwide’s first commission from Canal Plus, and it’s scheduled to air in 2015.

Directed by Hervé Martin Delpierre and co-written by co-written by Marina Rozenman, the documentary will chronicle the rise of and the artistic world of the two award-winning DJ’s, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who formed Daft Punk in the 90’s and became the leading figures of the French Touch scene.

During their 20-year career, the duo energized the European techno house scene and sold more than 12 million albums worldwide. They also won six Grammy Awards.

Jean-Louis Blot, head of BBC Worldwide Productions France, is producing the doc with Patrice Gellé.

“We are proud to announce our first commission with Canal Plus Group on such an original and creative film,” said Jean Louis Blot, topper of BBC Worldwide Productions France. “BBC Worldwide France stands as a major French producer of documentaries with stunning production values and universal appeal.”

Gellé, executive producer of BBC Worldwide Productions France’s documentary division, said the doc was the “first independent movie on the iconic group Daft Punk.”
