HONG KONG – CNN will launch an Indonesian version of its 24-hour news channel.
The local-language version will be hatched in partnership with PT Trans Media Corpora.
“This agreement with one of the country’s largest media corporations puts CNN in a unique position to reach millions of Indonesians in a way that we have not been able to previously,” Jeff Zucker, CNN Worldwide President. “The combination of the strength of the worldwide news-gathering power of CNN with the local perspective and sensibility that Trans Media will bring to the partnership enables us to provide important news and information to this enormous, non-English speaking audience.”
Trans Media is a leading integrated media group with two nationwide free-to-air television station (Trans TV and Trans 7), a leading pay TV operator, TelkomVision, and the most visited online portal, Detik.com.
The new channel launch will take place at an as yet undetermined date and be accompanied by the debut of a major digital presence, headed by CNNIndonesia.com.
Trans TV and Trans 7 hold the top positions in the Indonesian FTA market in terms of market share and profitability respectively. TelkomVision is the second largest pay-TV operator in Indonesia in terms of number of subscribers. Detik is Indonesia’s online portal.
