Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Hart Hanson on ‘Bones’ 200th Episode, More Fantasy Episodes

There are 206 bones in the human body… and nearly just as many episodes of “Bones.”

But before they can hit that fitting mark, “Bones” will air its special 200th episode this Thursday, and the cast could not have been more thrilled to share the excitement Monday night at Herringbone in West Hollywood.

“It’s surreal and wonderful and heartwarming,” said creator Hart Hanson. While reaching the 200th outing feels like a big enough accomplishment, Hanson also added that when “Bones” airs its 206th hour it will become Fox’s longest-running hourlong series… though, he doesn’t think he could take another party, he joked.

“The more we have celebrations it makes me realize that it’s real and what a big deal it is,” said Emily Deschanel. “I can’t remember so many [episodes], so we must have done a lot, right?” she laughed.

“It’s a very big accomplishment for everybody,” added David Boreanaz. “We had a ball so it’s nice to see everyone sit back and enjoy.” Boreanaz also directed the 200th and said that it’s an episode that he’s “very proud of.” However, while billed as an homage to Alfred Hitchock, Boreanaz said he wouldn’t call it a “Hitchcock piece.” Rather, the episode was an “opportunity to do something in that time period” and explore an alternate imagining of the show’s cast of characters.

The episode, “The 200th in the 10th,” reimagines the Jeffersonian and FBI in a 1950s Hollywood world. Brennan (Deschanel) plays an LAPD detective battling sexism while Booth (Boreanaz) is a jewel thief framed for the murder of a rich socialite.

The show has already run several alternate reality and fantasy-esque episodes, though this one is particularly special, said Hanson. Producer Stephen Nathan “has had it in mind since the second season,” he said. And with a bigger budget for the special 200th, “Bones” circa 1950 finally happened.

As for Hanson, he would love to do an off-screen-moments episode, he said. “We won’t be there when they find the body, but we’ll see them later having a cup of coffee and talking about it,” he said.

“I like any kind of acrobatic things,” Deschanel proposed for the next fantasy outing, though she added “not yet,” referencing her recently announced second pregnancy, which she believes will be written into the show, though she doesn’t know exact details. “Season 11 we’ll go and be acrobats,” she laughed.

“We’ve joked about doing a ‘Magic Mike’ episode,” added Eugene Byrd, who plays Dr. Clark Edison.

The cast went inside to take in the festivities, complete with a Bones-lit pool and a skeleton poised for photos. Hanson, Boreanaz and Deschanel all took the mic to toast the series, its cast and crew before presenting a highlight reel from the past 10 seasons.
