Back in the 1960s, Palm Springs visitors loved the Polynesian decor and potent cocktails of Don the Beachcomber.

In the very same Palm Canyon Drive location, recently opened Bootlegger Tiki brings back the midcentury craze with pufferfish lights and island maidens painted on velvet. The kitschy-cool decor is a sultry backdrop for classics like mai tais and daiquiris or modern creations that use the likes of mole bitters and cardamom-lemongrass syrup.

From the same owners, the adjacent Ernest Coffee is the only place in the area to get Portland favorite Stumptown Coffee.

Drink: La Florida, with Stumptown coffee, cognac, creme de cacao; Naked Ape, with rum, cinnamon syrup, banana liqueur

Go: 1101 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs
