Anti-Defamation League to Honor Roma Downey and Mark Burnett

The Anti-Defamation League will fete Roma Downey and Mark Burnett at its Entertainment Industry Dinner on May 8.

ADL national director Abraham Foxman will present Downey and Burnett with the Entertainment Industry Award for their ongoing commitment to the human rights org.

“This year’s recipients exemplify the mission and ideals of ADL; they have worked hard to bring together communities of different faiths and encourage understanding, inclusion and dialogue,” ADL regional director Amanda Susskind said.

Downey and Burnett, who are married, were the driving forces behind the hit History miniseries “The Bible” and the related feature film, “Son of God,” released by 20th Century Fox in February.

Burnett is one of primetime’s most prolific producers, with an active roster of shows that includes CBS’ “Survivor,” NBC’s “The Voice” and “Celebrity Apprentice” and ABC’s “Shark Tank.”

Downey, an actress best known for her run on CBS’ “Touched by an Angel,” is stepping up her work as a producer. She and Burnett are working on a miniseries “A.D” for NBC and another long-form project for CBS, “The Dovekeepers.”

Downey and Burnett join previous honorees including Steven Spielberg,  DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh.

The ADL’s annual Hollywood fundraiser will be held at the Beverly Hilton, with A+E Networks’ Nancy Dubuc, Fox’s Jim Gianopulos, Kavanaugh, NBCUniversal’s Ron Meyer and Hearst Corp.’s Steve Swartz serving as honorary co-chairs.
