Suge Knight, the once-head of Death Row Records, has been hospitalized after being shot early Sunday at a West Hollywood nightclub in an unofficial pre-Video Music Awards party hosted by Chris Brown.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Knight was on the list of victims for the incident, but would not divulge any further information.

According to TMZ, which first broke the news, shots rang out at West Hollywood’s 1Oak at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Knight was reportedly shot multiple times, but could walk out of the nightclub on his own and was escorted to an ambulance by police.

Knight was shot in the arm and the stomach, along with other places, but underwent surgery Sunday morning and is expected to recover, says the report. Knight was apparently one of three people shot.

Brown hyped up the event on his Instagram on Saturday, but took to Twitter on Sunday to vent about what happened.

Reps for MTV and the Video Music Awards have not yet responded to request for comment.

The VMAs will air live at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.
