Accompanied by a string quartet, the U.K. songwriter played a total of five ballads, including the title track “Everyday Robots” as well as “You and Me” before concluding the set with Blur’s “To the End.”
“I wrote this song 20 years ago,” he said of the final number, shaking his head in disbelief.
Albarn’s trademark falsetto gently sang over the new tunes, which had audience members swaying close by as the Gorillaz singer hopped from piano to the acoustic guitar.
Hosted by the Sundance Channel, the event included guests Maggie Gyllenhaal and “Game of Thrones” star Jason Momoa, both of whom star in upcoming dramas for the cable network.
Albarn’s debut solo record, “Everyday Robots,” arrives April 28 via Warner Bros. Music.
