“Mad Men” actor Vincent Kartheiser will play legendary Hollywood writer-director Billy Wilder in “Billy and Ray,” the Off Broadway play directed by Garry Marshall.

Kartheiser — who hasn’t appeared Off Broadway since the 2005 production of “Slag Heap” at the Cherry Lane Theater — will appear in “Billy and Ray” opposite New York stage veteran Larry Pine, who’ll portray scribe Raymond Chandler in Mike Bencivenga’s play about the making of famous film noir title “Double Indemnity.”

Sophie von Haselberg and Drew Gehling also will appear in the fall production at Off Broadway’s Vineyard Theater. Marshall initially directed the Hollywood comedy in its L.A. world premiere last year.

The New York staging of “Billy and Ray” begins previews Oct. 1 ahead of an Oct. 20 opening.
