Steven Soderbergh will direct Chloe Grace Moretz in “The Library,” a new play by screenwriter Scott Z. Burns that will have its world premiere this spring at Off Broadway’s Public Theater.

The play, about a young woman struggling in the aftermath of a tragic school shooting that she survived, marks the latest collaboration between Soderbergh and Burns, who penned the screenplays for Soderbergh pics “Side Effects,” “Contagion” and “The Informant!” Burns also co-wrote “The Bourne Ultimatum.”

As a New York stage debut for the director, the writer and star Moretz, “The Library” adds a dash of Hollywood oomph to this season’s Off Broadway lineup. There are also West Coast names backing the project, with the staging at the nonprofit Public Theater supported by the Kennedy/Marshall Company, the firm led by film producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.

The play is a late addition to the Public’s 2013-14 schedule, which also included the much-lauded new musical “Fun Home.” Show runs March 25-April 27, with further casting still to be set.
