Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin will star in a new production of Kenneth Lonergan’s 1996 play “This Is Our Youth,” originating this summer at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theater and moving on to Broadway for a September opening.

Anna D. Shapiro, the “August: Osage County” helmer whose current gig is the Broadway revival of “Of Mice and Men” starring James Franco and Chris O’Dowd, will direct the show, which will also star Tavi Gevinson, the 17-year-old editor of online fashion mag Rookie.

Cera and Culkin, both making their Broadway debuts in “This Is Our Youth,” previously appeared in a production of the play in Sydney, Australia in 2012. Mark Ruffalo starred in the original Off Broadway staging, and a London staging starred a string of big names including Matt Damon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Paquin, among others.

Scott Rudin, whose Main Stem productions include “The Book of Mormon” and the recently opened revival of “A Raisin in the Sun” starring Denzel Washington, produces.

The new production of “This Is Our Youth” — the first Longergan work to make it to Broadway — runs June 10-July 27 at the Steppenwolf before it shifts to Gotham’s Cort Theater, where it starts previews Aug. 18 ahead of a Sept. 11 opening.
