Knightley will play the title character in Helen Edmundson’s new adaptation of the novel by Emile Zola about an unhappily married woman who embarks on a passionate affair with one of her husband’s friends. Evan Cabnet (“The Model Apartment,” “A Kid Like Jake”) directs.
Although Knightley, whose upcoming film releases including “Laggies” with Chloe Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell and “The Imitation Game” with Benedict Cumberbatch, has never appeared on Broadway, she has stage credits in London, where she starred in West End revivals of “The Misanthrope” and “The Children’s Hour.”
“Therese Raquin” will kick off the 50th anniversary season at the Roundabout, the theater company that is currently hosting Ewan McGregor’s Broadway debut in “The Real Thing.” Also on tap for the org’s 2015-16 slate is an Off Broadway production of “The Humans,” the new Stephen Karam play soon to premiere in Chicago. Joe Mantello directs.
“Therese Raquin” will start previews Oct. 1, 2015 ahead of an Oct. 29, 2015 opening at one of the Roundabout’s three Broadway theaters, with the exact venue still to be determined.
