Dylan Baker to Join Helen Mirren in Broadway’s ‘The Audience’

Dylan Baker and Judith Ivey will star alongside Helen Mirren in the Broadway production of “The Audience,” the Peter Morgan play in which Mirren will return to the role of the Queen of England.

Baker — whose prior Broadway credits include “November” and “God of Carnage” — will play John Major with Ivey on board as Margaret Thatcher, two of the UK prime ministers whose weekly meetings with Elizabeth II are the subject of the show. Playwright Morgan also penned “The Queen,” the film in which Mirren won an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth.

Stephen Daldry (“Billy Elliot,” “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close”) directs a cast that includes Geoffrey Beevers, Michael Elwyn, Richard McCabe and Rufus Wright. Daldry helmed Mirren in the play’s world premiere last year in London, where the West End staging proved successful enough to warrant a return run in spring 2015 with Kristin Scott Thomas as the Queen.

The Broadway incarnation begins previews Feb. 17 ahead of a March 8 opening night at the Schoenfeld Theater.
