The recent stage revival of “Of Mice and Men,” the first Broadway production recorded by the National Theater’s NT Live series of cinemacasts, will hit movie theaters in the U.S. and Canada in November.
With a cast led by James Franco, Chris O’Dowd and Leighton Meester, “Of Mice and Men” was one of the strongest-selling play titles of last spring. The show, directed by Anna D. Shapiro (whose staging of “This Is Our Youth” just opened Sept. 11), recouped its capitalization well in advance of its final performance July 27, allowing the limited run to pull in some profit for its producers.
The NT Live cinemacast, which will screen in more than 700 theaters in the U.S. and Canada, marks the first pairing between Broadway, which has been slow to jump on the bandwagon of the cinemacast screenings that have proven so popular for the Metropolitan Opera and for the National, and NT Live, which has established its brand Stateside through regularly screenings of U.K. performances.
Distributed by BY Experience and Fathom Events, the NT Live cinemacast of “Of Mice and Men” is set for Nov. 6, with subsequent screenings to be scheduled.
