Egoyan, Lantos, Gatica Set For Los Cabos ‘Remember’ Masterclass (EXCLUSIVE)

Xavier Dolan’s ‘Mommy’ unspools as a Los Cabos Gala Screening

Consolidating a top-flight Canadian presence at the 3rd Los Cabos Intl. Film Festival, director Atom Egoyan will deliver a masterclass on the makings of revenge drama-thriller “Remember,” accompanied by producers Robert Lantos and Gerardo Gatica, and moderated by the Toronto Festival’s artistic director Cameron Bailey.

Los Cabos also confirmed Tuesday that Xavier Dolan’s “Mommy” will bow at the Mexican Festival as one of its highly select Gala Screenings. Berth reps “Mommy’s” Latin American premiere.

Now in post, and sold by IM Global outside the U.S., “Remember” is produced by Robert and Ari Lantos and Gatica, and stars Academy Award winners Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau, and Germany’s Bruno Ganz, Adolf Hitler in “Downfall.”

Benjamin August’s original screenplay for “Remember” combines a contemporary revenge plot with the darkest chapter of World War II history, as Zev (Plummer) and best friend Max (Landau) set out to track down the Nazi commandant responsible for killing their families. The shocking truth that awaits Zev will turn his life upside down, suggesting the ultimate cost of revenge.

One of the most distinguished figures in the Canadian film industry, and the founder of Alliance Communications Corp., Robert Lantos’ credits include multiple titles from Egoyan, such as Cannes Grand Jury Prize “The Sweet Hereafter,” some of David Cronenberg’s most admired films – “Eastern Promises,” “Crash,” – plus, among over 40 films in total, Istvan Szabo’s “Meeting Julia,” and Jean-Claude Lauzon’s “Leolo.”

Partnering Robert Lantos at Serendipity Point Films, Ari Lantos produced “Barney’s Version” and “The Right Kind of Wrong.” A co-founding partner and CEO at Bh5 Group, Gatica’s producer credits take in “Rezeta,” winner at 2014’s Slamdance Festival.

Serendipidity Point Films produced “Remember” with Distant Horizon, Detalle, Telefilm Canada and Egoli Tossell in an international co-production whose packaging may well form part of discussions.

Word premiering in competition at Cannes, troubled mother-son drama “Mommy” went on to win its Jury Prize. Dolan will attend the Nov. 13 Gala Screening.

In other highlights of Canada’s presence at Los Cabos, TIFF director and CEO Piers Handling will serve as a jury member, while Los Cabos will honor both Denys Arcand – screening his latest, “An Eyefor Beauty,” and Oscar-winning “Barbarian Invasions,” and also Egoyan, whose “Captive,” another Cannes competition entry, will play at Los Cabos. Telefilms is expected to head a strong delegation of Canadian producers at Los Cabos, which is fast consolidating as a meet-mart for the U.S., Canada and Mexico industries.

“Remember’s” masterclass takes place Nov. 15. The 3rd Los Cabos Festival – formerly Baja Intl. Film Festival- unspools Nov. 12-16.
