Paramount Signs ‘The Departed’ Writer William Monahan to First-Look Deal

“The Departed” writer William Monahan has signed a two-year first-look deal with Paramount Pictures through his Henceforth Pictures banner.

Monahan has written the scripts for two upcoming Paramount projects — “The Gambler,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Jessica Lange with Rupert Wyatt directing; and “Desperado,” based on the book “Cocaine Cowboys,” with Wahlberg starring and Peter Berg directing.

He’s also the writer on Robert Rodriguez’ “Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For” and “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance” starring Charlize Theron.

Monahan made his directorial debut on “London Boulevard” and is in post production on “Mojave,” which he directed from his own script and stars Garrett Hedlund and Oscar Isaac. “Mojave” is a co-production between Henceforth Pictures and Atlas Entertainment.

Monahan is repped by WME, LBI’s Chris Donnelly, 42′s Josh Varney and attorney David Weber.

The news was first reported by Deadline.com.
