Sony has bought a pitch from Mosaic as a starring vehicle for Will Ferrell.

Based on an original idea developed internally at Mosaic and currently untitled, the comedy centers around the intense, competitive world inside a Shakespearean theater company.

The screenplay will be written by David Guion and Michael Handelman. Michael De Luca and Jonathan Kadin are overseeing for Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Ferrell and Sony have had a run of good results with hits that include “Step Brothers,” “The Other Guys” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.” The studio recently bought a buddy comedy pitch, “Border Guards,” with Ferrell and John C. Reilly attached to star.

Ferrell is repped by CAA and Mosaic and can be seen next in “Get Hard.”

Guion and Handelman have become two of Hollywood’s go-to writers when it comes to comedies. They recently wrote “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” and have also written “Dinner for Schmucks.” They have also worked on “The Internship,” “The Watch” and “Blades of Glory.”

They are repped by UTA.

Mosaic has also stayed busy on the development front with projects including Sony Animation project “Manimal” which Jay Martel and Ian Roberts as well “The Yank” which has Steven Pink and Jeff Morris penning for TriStar.
