In this week’s edition of the Variety Movie Commercial Tracker, powered by iSpot.tv, new entrant “The Judge” leads in spending with an estimated outlay of $7.3 million for spots that have aired 940 times across 39 networks through September 21. The comedy-drama starring Robert Downey, Jr., takes the top spot from “Dolphin Tale 2,” which drops entirely out of our chart this week.
Two other new movies, “Annabelle” and “Dracula Untold,” also enter our top 5, in third and fourth place respectively, and they have something in common: They each placed more of their ads on Comedy Central than any other network. In fact, four out of five of our top 5 movies made Comedy Central their first choice for ad placements, and even “The Judge” made the Viacom cable network its second-place pick (behind Spike) for its commercials.
