Magnolia Pictures and Paramount Pictures are teaming on distribution for comedy-drama “Happy Christmas,” which will have its world premiere Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival.

The film is directed by Joe Swanberg (“Drinking Buddies”) from his own script and produced by Swanberg, Peter Gilbert and co-produced by Alicia Van Couvering. Anna Kendrick, Melanie Lynskey, Mark Webber, Lena Dunham and Swanberg star.

Magnolia is handling U.S. theatrical and VOD distribution and is planning a summer release, while Paramount Home Media Distribution will handle U.S. physical home entertainment and all international rights.

Kendrick plays an irresponsible 20-something who comes to Chicago to live with her older brother (Swanberg), a young filmmaker living a happy existence with his novelist wife (Lynskey) and their two-year-old son. Her arrival  shakes up their quiet domesticity.

The film is Kendrick’s second collaboration with Swanberg following “Drinking Buddies,” also distributed by Magnolia.

The deal was negotiated by Dori Begley and Peter Van Steemburg with Swanberg, Alicia Van Couvering and Andre Des Rochers of Gray Krauss Stratford Sandler Des Rochers LLP on behalf of the filmmakers.
