Even if “Maps to the Stars” won’t open in theaters this year, Julianne Moore is back in the Oscars race. Sony Pictures Classics announced on Friday that it would be releasing the drama “Still Alice,” where Moore plays a woman diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s Disease, for an Academy-Awards qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles in December.
The picture will play for a week in 2014, before officially opening on Jan. 16, 2015.
“Still Alice” debuted at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month, where it received strong reviews for Moore and was acquired by SPC. The film was co-directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland.
Moore has been nominated four times at the Oscars, but she’s yet to win.
