Robert De Niro will be honored this Thursday with the Creative Commitment in Film award at unite4:good and Variety’s unite4:humanity event at Culver City’s Sony Studios lot. Andy Samberg will host the inaugural event.
De Niro, whose career spans almost five decades, starred in “The Family,” “Last Vegas” and “Grudge Match” last year. He also had an almost unrecognizable role in “American Hustle,” which is up for all top prizes, including best picture, at this Sunday’s Oscars.
Whiskey brand Johnnie Walker will fete Samberg with the “Keep Walking Award” in recognition of the “Saturday Night Live” alum’s recent slew of accomplishments and vast potential. The comedian nabbed his first Golden Globe (best actor in a comedy) this year for his freshman Fox series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
Other honorees include Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Creative Commitment in Television), Selena Gomez (Young Humanitarian), Alicia Keys (Music Visionary), Philomena Lee (Everyday Hero), Demi Lovato (Young Luminary), Martin Scorsese (Variety Creative Conscience) and John Sykes, president of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises, (Media Social Visionary). Additionally, five everyday heroes will receive the Inspiration Award for their philanthropic work.
Influential leaders in politics, media, business and philanthropy will be on hand for the event. Former President Bill Clinton will give opening remarks. The evening will also feature musical sets from Lovato and Keys.
