Next ‘Bourne’ Film Pushed to July 2016

Film was set to be released August 2015

Universal Pictures has pushed back the next untitled “Bourne” pic from Aug. 14, 2015, to July 15, 2016.

Jeremy Renner is set to return with Justin Lin directing.

Frank Marshall once again produces, alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Since the studio only recently set Andrew Baldwin to pen the script to the next and a production date had not been set for the film, it makes sense that Universal pushed the release to give more time to finish the script.

The last installment, “The Bourne Legacy,” grossed more than $275 million worldwide.

In its place, Universal has dated the NWA biopic “Straight Outta Compton” for Aug. 14, 2015, announcing that newcomers O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell will play group members Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E in the F. Gary Gray film.

The pic tells the story of the five youngsters from Compton, Calif., who created the hip-hop group NWA and revolutionized music and pop culture by telling about life in the hood and igniting a cultural war.

The pic will be produced by Cube and Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.
