Media Luna Takes ‘Internet Junkie’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Produced by Monica Lozano, omnibus develops five stories of Internet, technological obsession

LOS CABOS – Adding to its already fulsome line-up of Latin American titles, up, Germany’s Media Luna has acquired world sales rights to Alexander Katzowicz’s “Internet Junkie,” produced by Monica Lozano (“Instructions Not Included”), in a co-production with Argentina and Israel.

Shot in the three countries, Katzowicz’s opera prima develops five stories of techno-dependency, in one of which celebrated Mexican director Arturo Ripstein and Spain’s Angela Molina play down on their uppers grandparents living in a senior citizen home where Molina’s character attempts to prise the TV remote control away from her husband.

Other four tales also depict chronic cases of digital dependency in a world where, per Katzowicz, quoted by Cinestel, “many people are totally addicte, depending on devices for everything – love, friendship, relations – and in their physical relationship live isolated between fourwalls in a dark place.”

Argentina’s Antonio Birabent (“5.5.5.”) co-stars. A reknowned shorts filmmaker, Katozowicz has directed a series of stop-motion shorts most notably perhaps the chess-board and flex-lamp allegory, “Versus,” co-helmed with brother David Katzowicz.
