‘Mad Men’ Actor Bryan Batt, Peter Fonda Join Nicolas Cage Political Drama

“Man Men” actor Bryan Batt, Peter Fonda, Connie Nielsen and Wendell Pierce have joined “The Runner,” starring Nicolas Cage and Sarah Paulson.

Benji Kohn, Bingo Gubelmann, Chris Papavasiliou and Erika Hampson will produce the political drama for Paper Street Films, and Glenn Williamson for Back Lot Pictures. Ruth Mutch, Noah Millman, Sam Bisbee and Tom Conigliaro are exec producing.

Austin Stark is making his directorial debut from his own script with production set for New Orleans on June 23.

The story follows the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Cage will play an idealistic Congressman who’s forced to confront his dysfunctional life after his career is destroyed in a sex scandal. Pierce will play his chief of staff, Nielsen will portray his wife and Fonda will be his father — a former New Orleans mayor. Batt will take on the role of a Wall Street financier who caters to Big Oil companies.
