Josh Brolin Thanos

Josh Brolin has been tapped to play the villainous Thanos in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” sources confirm to Variety.

Thanos, who first appeared in the post-credits scene in “The Avengers,” is a major villain in the Marvel universe and is also expected to appear in one, if not both, of the upcoming “Avengers” sequels.

“We’re definitely tied to ‘Avengers 3,'” director James Gunn recently said of the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which hits theaters Aug. 1.

Co-starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper, “Guardians” is based on the Marvel comic series and tells the story of a superhero team fighting to save the world.

Latino Review first broke the Brolin news.

  1. bitter trekkie says:

Congrats, Brolin. Don’t f*ck it up. Don’t like this trailer as much as the first, but it looks like a big-screen version of Farscape, which is a good thing. After watching Star Trek Into Darkness, which was HOR. RI. BLE. but cleaned up at the b.o., the bar for success is obviously not set high for action-heavy space adventure flicks. If GotG doesn’t suck out loud, it should do fine. Even if it does, it should do fine.

  2. Brolin sucks says:

Hated this guy since Goonies. Can’t @#$%ing stand him, terrible screen presence that reeks of douchebaggery. But if he’s playing the villain I’ll enjoy watching him get his ass handed to him.

  3. dragon says:

DC drops the ball and Marvel picks it up. He would have been so good as Batman!

    • Ryan Hogan says:

The sad thing this isn’t sarcasm ._.@ This guy is so stupidly overrated; after seeing him in everything from Jonah Hex to W, to Goonies he is really @#$%ing terrible…always with the dumb@#$% scowl on his face like an @$$hole…

  4. STANNIS says:

From Goonies to Guardians – nice

  5. Mercy Killing says:

Dear God, PLEASE just let him be voicing a CGI character. I mean seriously. Look at the picture the article uses. There just is NO WAY a human being can be that thickly muscled and massive. To portray Thanos as anything other than what is pictured and presented in the comics is as much a travesty as they pulled in X3 with Juggernaut.

Reblogged this on Living the Geek Life and commented:
Looks like Thanos will finally be making an appearance! GotG just keeps getting better and better.

    • theDarkness says:

You have clearly no experience with James Gunn’s films…the guy is awful, and GotG looks like another bad joke of his posing as a movie.

      • Living the Geek Life says:

Well, I hope it turns out well, but we will see. I love that Marvel is thinking outside the box.

  7. Mike says:

The reporter never states that Brolin is in the Avengers. Here’s the quote from the article “Thanos, who first appeared in the post-credits scene in “The Avengers,” is a major villain in the Marvel universe and is also expected to appear in one, if not both, of the upcoming “Avengers” sequels.

How on earth did you not just re-read the article before jumping to insulting the reporter?

  8. Darren says:

You seem to be going under the assumption that comics themselves are all about tights – they’re not. They’ve moved away from spandex in many major characters just as the movies have.

  9. Aza says:

Josh Brolin was never in Avengers! That was Alexis Denisof.
Guardians of the galaxy is already completed. How on earth did you get a job reporting?

    • Keuric says:

      Uh. No.

That was not Alexis. Alexis plays The Other, the man talking to Loki, who works for Thanos. Damon Poitier played Thanos for the four seconds he was onscreen.

  10. 31st century that’s why he got 80s music on his WALKMAN good job lol.

    • Chris says:

lol it’s not in the 31st century it’s in modern day but in space. He was born on earth and the walkman is all he has left as a human.

    • It would be possible to have a Walkman with ’80s music in the 31st century. I’m not saying it’s likely, and it would seem that the article was inaccurate anyway. I’m just saying it’s not impossible.

  11. Pete says:

31st century? I’m pretty sure guardians takes place in the current timeline

  12. AD says:

    Isn’t Latino review notoriously inaccurate?

  13. Sierun says:

    @Rosebudfr

No they already did the work for him in the film, they’re probably only letting it slip or it got slipped just now. By now all the shooting for the film is done.

  14. Rosebudfr says:

The film’s release is 2 months away and they’re still adding to the cast?!

    • Jeff says:

Just because it’s being announced now doesn’t mean it is being filmed now. This story broke, it isn’t part of a press release. They were probably trying to keep it a secret.

  15. braxton29 says:

WOW!!! This is a surprise and a damn good casting choice.
