Jeff Robinov’s Sony-based Studio 8 has been ramping up staffing, hiring former Fox exec Chris Goldberg as a development executive.
Goldberg is the third creative hire for Studio 8, joining Robert Brassel and Jon Silk. He worked as Fox’s director of literary affairs in the New York office scouting books for Fox before moving to the Los Angeles office in 2013.
Goldberg was involved in the acquisition of rights to “Gone Girl,” “The Fault in Our Stars,” “Animal Rescue” (the basis for “The Drop”) and “The Martian,” which Ridley Scott is set to direct starring Matt Damon.
Studio 8 closed its distribution deal with Sony on Sept. 8 with plans to release six films a year. Robinov, the former Warner Bros. studio chief, said at that point that he expected to raise $1 billion from financiers and a partnership China’s Fosun Group.
