Following his Golden Globe nomination for his critically acclaimed performance in “Whiplash,” J.K. Simmons has landed his next role alongside Tom Hiddleston in Legendary’s King Kong origin tale “Kong: Skull Island.”
The film will focus on the giant gorilla’s mysterious and dangerous world — something previous films in the genre have only touched on. Max Borenstein, who also wrote the screenplay for Legendary’s “Godzilla” reboot, wrote the first draft with “Flight” scribe John Gatins penning a rewrite.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing.
The pic will bow on March 10, 2017.
Simmons is repped by Gersh. Deadline first reported the news.
