Pixar Reveals Plot Details of ‘Inside Out’

Until now, plot details of Pixar’s next film “Inside Out” have been kept under wraps. But on Monday, the studio released the synopsis of the Pete Docter-directed movie, which features a star-studded cast as the emotions.

As written on Pixar’s official website, the movie will focus on five emotions — Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Joy (Amy Poehler), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) — competing for control in the mind of a young girl named Riley. The full synopsis is below:

“From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.”

2014 marks the first year since 2005 where Pixar has not come out with a new film every year. However, the studio is releasing two movies next year.

“Inside Out” is set to open June 19, 2015. Pixar will also release “The Good Dinosaur” later that year, on Nov. 25.

  4. squidol says:

  6. MCoorlim says:

FINALLY someone’s making a movie adaptation of “Herman’s Head.”

  7. Kynonia says:

So ‘sadness’ is a slightly overweight bespectacled (read ‘nerdy’) girl, while ‘joy’ is a tall thin girl with 20/20 vision (’cause she hasn’t ruined her eyes by reading books, get it)…

So, studying is for SAD people; books (and learning) cannot bring anyone JOY. A size 0 figure on the other hand is the mark of a truly joyful person (especially a girl), while fat people are sad (read ‘losers’).

    Way to go Pixar/Disney!

Now plant this (not so) ‘subliminable’ message into the minds of millions of children the world over…

  8. Caryn Boggs says:

I’m so excited about these two upcoming movies for 2015. We have a niece just born this year. Her name too is Riley and she’s adorable & so amazing! How awesome in “Inside Out” this brave little girl’s name is Riley. Can’t wait!!
“The Good Dinosaur” is a dream come true for Mr. Austin Madison. A Dinosaur Pixar Movie. So proud of you Austin for all your input/Dino knowledge for Pixar’s prehistoric creations!!
    *Yeah Pixar Team!!*

  9. Polterkatt says:

Wow, a move to San Francisco renders the kid emotionally unstable? She’ll fit right in!

Welp, I guess we can anticipate some attempts at humor in watching a simple Midwestern hayseed try to deal with all them there Cali-fornicatin’ “sophisticates”. Yee-haw!

    :\

  10. David says:

So basically it’s HERMAN’S HEAD if Herman was an 11-year-old girl. I hope they give Hank Azaria a cameo.

  11. Noela C. says:

That synopsis has been up on Pixar’s site since early April.

  12. Lori A says:

I’m looking forward to Inside Out. What they showed last summer at the D23 Expo looked really funny and got laughs. I can’t say the same for the Good Dinosaur. Hoping they are fixing that movie.

  13. Daniel says:

Sounds like ‘Monsters Inc.’ times five, conceptually.

There, you had only fear as a control centre. Now, four other dwarves get some attention.

Upon reading about this last year, I was hoping for something ingeneous, like how the brains emotions are formed and connect and disconnect with the girl’s experiences.

Reblogged this on The Experiences and commented:
I am so super excited about this! Guys, FINALLY. This is a movie waiting to be made. Wish the character was older though, it’s not like 20 year olds don’t feel this. But I get it, must appeal to the younger crowds, bla bla bla
