‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Hits $400 Million in U.S.

Sequel hits mark on 42nd day

Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” has crossed the $400 million mark in the U.S. after taking in $1.7 million on its 42nd day of release.

“Catching Fire” is only $8 million short of the final U.S. cume of $408 million for  2012′s “The Hunger Games” and $9 million behind Disney/Marvel’s “Iron Man 3.” The latter currently carries the title of top domestic grosser for 2013 titles.

“Catching Fire,” with Jennifer Lawrence reprising her Katniss Everdeen role, has a worldwide total of $808 million to date with $408 million internationally.

The last two films in the franchise, “Mockingjay Part 1” and “Mockingjay Part 2,” will be released in November of this year and next year.
