Lionsgate and CodeBlack will release the psychological thriller “Repentance,” starring Forest Whitaker, in the U.S. on Feb. 28.

Philippe Caland directed from the screenplay he wrote with Shintaro Shimosawa (“The Grudge”). Caland produced with Whitaker and his producing partner, Nina Yang Bongiovi under their production shingle Significant Productions.

The film, which also stars Anthony Mackie and Mike Epps, is part of the multiyear distribution deal announced last year between CodeBlack and Lionsgate under which the studio was aiming to expand its already strong urban biz.

“Repentance” centers on a life coach (Mackie) who’s mysteriously abducted by a deranged client, played by Whitaker.

“Repentance” has been set for a market screening at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. Film Bridge International is handling international sales.
