Tokyo: “Expendables 3” topped the Japanese box office for the Nov. 1-2 weekend, earning $1.57 million on 154,544 admissions on 314 screens. The pic’s take for the three-day holiday weekend, including Nov. 3, was $2.13 million.
Bowing at number two was “Clover,” a romantic comedy based on a popular TV series that scored $1.49 million on 146,563 admissions and 298 screens. The film’s three-day total, $2.19 million, topped that of “E3.”
Debuting in the third spot was French director Christophe Gans’ live-action version of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” with $1.46 million on 136,028 admissions and 154 screens. Its three-day take of $2.05 million indicates a $10 million-plus hit finish.
The end of the Japan Series baseball championship and the Tokyo International Film Festival, as well as the Monday holiday and the Nov. 1 “Service Day” of first-of-the-month ticket discounts spurred a healthy weekend-on uptick in overall BO.
