British actor Eddie Redmayne will star in Working Title’s romance drama “The Danish Girl,” a film inspired by one of the first men to undergo a sex-change operation.
The project will re-team Redmayne with director Tom Hooper, two years after they collaborated on “Les Miserables.”
The film will be based on David Ebershoff’s novel of the same name, a fictionalized account of the life of Danish painters Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda. In 1930, Wegener underwent the surgery and became Lili Elbe.
Lucinda Coxon adapted the screenplay.
Producers are Hooper, Gail Mutrux through her Pretty Pictures, Anne Harrison, Linda Reisman and Working Title’s Erik Fellner and Tim Bevan.
Hooper’s is repped by ICM Partners and Independent Talent Group in the U.K. Redmayne is repped by CAA and manager Gene Parseghian.
