Debra Winger, Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas, Kevin McHale Join School Drama ‘Boychoir’

Foursome join previously announced Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates

Debra Winger, Eddie IzzardJosh Lucas and Kevin McHale are joining the cast of “The Red Violin” director Francois Girard’s music-themed drama, “Boychoir,” with a trio of newcomers — Garrett Wareing, Joe West and River Alexander — set to play the film’s three most prominent student singers.

Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates have been previously announced to topline the original film, for which “Source Code” writer penned the script.

Set in present day New England, “Boychoir” follows a troubled 12-year-old boy (Wareing), who is enrolled in a boychoir school modeled after the real-life American Boychoir School in Princeton, N.J. He’s pitted against a demanding choir master, played by Hoffman, with Bates playing the school headmistress and Winger, a school principal.

Judy Cairo, Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring of Informant Media are producing. Exec producers are Michael A. Simpson, Eric Brenner and Ben Ripley.

Casting director and co-producer John Papsidera conducted a worldwide search for the principal school boys.

Embankment Films represents international sales and has already pre-sold over 30 territories including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Japan, Australia and all Latin America. The film began production on Feb. 24 in Connecticut.
