Debra Winger, Eddie Izzard, Josh Lucas and Kevin McHale are joining the cast of “The Red Violin” director Francois Girard’s music-themed drama, “Boychoir,” with a trio of newcomers — Garrett Wareing, Joe West and River Alexander — set to play the film’s three most prominent student singers.
Set in present day New England, “Boychoir” follows a troubled 12-year-old boy (Wareing), who is enrolled in a boychoir school modeled after the real-life American Boychoir School in Princeton, N.J. He’s pitted against a demanding choir master, played by Hoffman, with Bates playing the school headmistress and Winger, a school principal.
Judy Cairo, Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring of Informant Media are producing. Exec producers are Michael A. Simpson, Eric Brenner and Ben Ripley.
Casting director and co-producer John Papsidera conducted a worldwide search for the principal school boys.
