“Dear White People” star Justin Dobies, Elizabeth Whitson (“Awkward”) and Noah Segan have signed on for the indie dark comedy “Get the Girl.”
The project was announced on Wednesday at AFM. XYZ Films is representing domestic sales.
Eric England is directing from his own script, based on a story by Graham Denman.
Shooting will start this fall in Los Angeles. Scout Taylor-Compton, Adi Shankar, Jerry Purpdrank and James Landry Hebert will also star.
EBF Production’s Eric B. Fleischman and Sean Tabibian’s new genre label Diablo Entertainment will produce with England, and finance alongside exec producers Jamal and Fadi Saab.
The story revolves around a wealthy young man who is conned into staging a fake kidnapping in order to be a hero and win the affection of a girl — only to see one of the hired kidnappers accidentally killed.
England previously wrote and directed “Contracted.”
Dobies is repped at Paradigm and by Glenn Rigberg, Inphenate and attorney Mitch Smelkinson. Whitson is repped at Gersh and Sweeney Entertainment. England and Taylor-Compton are also repped by Gersh.
