HONG KONG – Chinese comedy “Breakup Buddies” and “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” took the honours at the Chinese box office.

In its second frame the Ning Hao-directed “Breakup Buddies,” claimed $48.7 million, giving it first place over the full week. After 13 days on release, it stands on a massive cumulative total of $151 million, according to data from local tracker EntGroup.

Over the more narrowly defined Friday to Sunday weekend the belated release of “Guardians” was the winner, scoring $30.1 million, compared with an estimated $13 million for “Buddies.”

The score for “Guardians” was the third best premiere for any Disney film in China, behind “Iron Man 3? and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Chinese child kidnapping drama “Dearest” held its own in third place for the second successive week, clocking up $11.7 million in its third week of release and moving on to a cumulative of $47.5 million after 18 days.

Actioner, “Black And White Episode 2,” which ranked second last week, dropped to fourth. It amassed $9.65 million on the week for a cumulative of $30.5 million.

Ann Hui-directed period drama “The Golden Era,” moved up one place from sixth to fifth. But its box office score dropped to $2.58 million, for a disappointing $7.17 million cumulative after 12 days.

Chinese-made sci-fi actioner “Bugs” also failed to make much of an impression on its debut. It earned $1.97 million in three days.

Archetypal Hong Kong cartoon “McDull Me & My Mum,” added $1.90 million, for a cumulative score of $6.60 million after 12 days.
