Billy Ray will direct “The Secret in Their Eyes,” an adaptation of Argentinean pic that won the 2009 Academy Award for foreign-language film. IM Global will launch international sales at Cannes.

Helmed by Juan Jose Campanella and starring Ricardo Darin, the Argentine original is regarded by many as a modern masterpiece.

Mark Johnson will produce along with John Ufland.

“Secret,” which is described as a sophisticated crime thriller, is scheduled to start production this fall in Boston. CAA arranged financing for the film and represents the film’s domestic rights.

Written by Ray, the revenge tale stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow in the story of a cold case that suddenly heats up when a former MI-5 agent returns to Boston, still obsessed by the unsolved murder that continues to haunt him.

Said Ford, “Billy has written a wonderfully intelligent, twisting screenplay and we’re lucky enough to have attached two world class acting talents at the top of their game for ‘Secret.’ We’re confident of bringing further great cast onboard as we move towards production.”

“The thought of combining the originality of the original film with the talent of Billy Ray and the support off IM Global is irresistible,” Johnson added.

The deals with Ejiofor and Paltrow were negotiated by Ford and Matt Jackson, IM Global’s president of production, who will serve as executive producers. Campanella is also onboard as EP.
