Box Office: Paul Walker’s ‘Brick Mansions’ Opens with $400,000 on Thursday Night

Paul Walker’s “Brick Mansions” took in a moderate $400,000 in late-night Thursday showings in the U.S., according to industry estimates.

The action-thriller is the late star’s second-to-last film before “Fast & Furious 7.” The pic was a passion project for Walker, who died in a car accident late last year. Relativity Media has been worked closely with Walker’s family during marketing. Instead of hosting a premiere, the distributor made a donation to Walker’s charity Reach Out WorldWide.

The earnings for the movie are fairly close to Relativity’s last actioner, the Kevin Costner-starrer “3 Days to Kill,” which grossed $325,000 on Thursday on its way to a $12.3 million opening weekend. Relativity is expecting a somewhat lower number for “Mansions” in the $8 million to $10 million range.

Fox’s opening of its comedy “The Other Woman” is expected to win the weekend with forecasts in the $16-$19 million range.

Disney-Marvel’s fourth weekend of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” which has taken in $207 million domestically, should haul about $15 million this weekend. Sony’s second weekend of the faith-based hit “Heaven Is For Real” is expected to wind up in the same range.

Lionsgate’s launch of the horror film “The Quiet Ones” could reach $10 million based on mid-week tracking.
