Box Office: ‘Dracula Untold’ Comes Alive with $1.3 Million at Latenight Shows

Universal-Legendary’s vampire thriller “Dracula Untold” opened respectably with $1.3 million at late shows Thursday in 2,133 U.S. theaters.

The $70 million film, which expands to 2,885 sites, is an origins story that stars Luke Evans as Vlad the Impaler. Forecasters expect “Dracula Untold” to finish the weekend in the $16 million to $18 million range.

Fox’s second weekend of “Gone Girl” looks likely to repeat its first-place finish with about $22 million, followed by Disney’s launch of family comedy “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” at around $19 million.

Besides “Dracula Untold,” Warner Bros.’ opening of “The Judge,” starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall, and New Line’s second frame of horror thriller “Annabelle” will compete for the third slot.

“Annabelle” opened with $2.2 million at late-night Thursday screenings last week on its way to a surprisingly strong $37.1 million weekend.
