Bianca Santos Joins Mae Whitman in ‘The DUFF’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Bianca Santos has been cast as a lead in the CBS Films high-school comedy “The DUFF,” opposite Mae Whitman.

McG and Mary Viola are producing for Wonderland Sound and Vision along with Susan Cartsonis. Vast Entertainment’s Lane Shefter Bishop, who brought the book to Wonderland, is exec producing.

The feature film is set to begin shooting in Atlanta in June. Ari Sandel was attached to direct the project last year from Josh A. Cagan’s adaptation of the novel by Kody Keplinger.

The story is centered on a high school senior whose world is turned upside down when she learns that she has been labeled by her group of friends as the DUFF (designated ugly fat friend), a sidekick to her prettier, more popular friends.

Santos will play Casey Cordero, the best friend to Whitman’s character, who opts to dump Casey rather than remain the group DUFF.

CBS Films acquired the feature rights “The DUFF” in 2011. Mark Ross and Alex Ginno are overseeing the project for CBS Films.

Santos starred on ABC Family’s “The Fosters” and will soon play the lead in MTV’s new series “Happyland.”

Santos is represented by Luber Roklin Entertainment, Innovative Artists and Ginsburg Daniels.
